Wolves set to be without recognised No 9 for Liverpool visit after Hwang Hee-Chan injury

Wolverhampton Wanderers will head to Liverpool on Sunday without a recognised No 9 after Hwang Hee-chan was ruled out for up to three games with a hamstring injury.

The South Korea international limped off at half-time in last weekend’s FA Cup win at Blackburn and has since been diagnosed with a hamstring strain that will keep him out in the short term.

Head coach Vitor Pereira said: “He got an injury and the next few games I think he’ll be out, maybe two or three games. It is not serious but something.”

First-choice striker Jorgen Strand Larsen is also out with a hamstring strain of his own.

Although he is ready to return to training, he is not expected to be available for matches until next weekend’s trip to Bournemouth at the earliest.

“I believe that he will do the first training with the team tomorrow,” said Pereira. “We cannot take risks with him because I need him for the next games. I believe for the next game he will be on the (squad) list.”

The absence of Hwang and Strand Larsen leaves Pereira without a recognised No 9, meaning Portugal international Goncalo Guedes is likely to be pushed into the role on a makeshift basis. Matheus Cunha is available and is the team’s top scorer in all competitions with 12 goals.
