White’s Nursery and Greenhouses Shutting Down Its Wholesale Greenhouse Division

White’s Nursery and Greenhouses, a Greenhouse Grower Top 100 Grower that has been growing plants in Chesapeake, VA, since 1956, has decided to wind down its wholesale greenhouse operation. On Feb. 12, 2024, the White’s ownership team of Norm White, Tal White, and Dana Doyle issued the following statement.

“After 68 years of producing potted flowering plants and annuals, Norm, Dana, and Tal made the tough decision to wind down White’s Nursery’s Wholesale Greenhouse operation. We will continue to operate the Retail Garden Center and Internet Fulfillment service.

2023 was the most challenging operating year for our Wholesale Greenhouse, which is capital and labor intensive. Reduced customer demand and rising interest rates impacted the viability of the wholesale nursery.

Pansies, Easter crops, and a limited number of spring annuals will be the last plants grown in our greenhouses.

We have placed the real property on the market with Colliers International. We will be working with our lender through the process of selling the real property on which the wholesale nursery operated. Based on current offers, we expect that all of our vendors will be paid in full from that sale.

Holidays Crops Offer a Twist

Our family is grateful for the decades of support from our dedicated employees, loyal customers, dependable vendors, and local community. As we navigate this transition, we extend our appreciation to everyone who has been a part of our journey and will continue to be part of our growth.

White’s Nursery remains committed to serving our community through our retail garden center and Internet fulfillment service.

White’s Nursery & Greenhouses, Inc., located in Chesapeake, VA, opened in 1956 with Norm and Hetty White, husband and wife, as its first employees. The Wholesale Greenhouses consist of 20 acres of commercial greenhouses on 56 acres of land.”

Greenhouse Grower wishes its best to the entire team at White’s Nursery and Greenhouses through this transition.
