The United States coasted through their three group stage games, winning all by dougle-digit margins.
They opened with a dominant 102-76 win over Japan, led by A’ja Wilson’s double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds.
In their second game, Belgium managed to hang around for long stretches of the contest but the U.S. eventually pulled away to win 87-74. Breanna Stewart led the way in scoring this time with 26 points.
Facing Germany in their final group stage game, the U.S. actually found themselves trailing 19-16 after the first quarter. That deficit didn’t last long, however, as the U.S. dominated the second quarter by a 25-10 margin en route to ultimately winning 87-68.
