The UK’s largest bike maker, in partnership with Bajaj Auto, has finally launched the second bike in its new 400cc bike range in India. Triumph Motorcycles has launched its new Scrambler 400 X with a price tag of Rs 2.63 lakh. This all-new bike is the sibling of the previously launched Speed 400. The bookings for the Triumph Scrambler 400 X have commenced, and interested customers can reserve one with a booking amount of Rs 10,000. The Scrambler 400 X offers some differences over the Speed 400 and has been priced with a premium.
Design
The all-new Triumph Scrambler 400 X, although looking very similar to the Speed 400, gets a much more rugged and off-road-specific appearance. The motorcycle features a molded fuel tank with a 13-liter capacity, classic Triumph black powder-coated engine casings, and gold-anodized front forks. The Scrambler 400 X gets the same primary frame and new circular LED headlights with DRLs. The company is offering three dual-tone color options with the new Scrambler 400 X. These options include green/white, red/black, and black/silver. Triumph is also offering an additional 25 optional accessories with Scrambler X to enhance its off-road capabilities and utility.
Mechanical specifications
Coming to the mechanical side of things, the Triumph 400 X comes equipped with a 43 mm upside-down big-piston fork suspension at the front. Meanwhile, on the rear, the bike gets a gas-charged mono-shock which comes with pre-load adjustment. The Scrambler offers more suspension travel than the Speed 400 X at 150 mm on both ends. As for the braking system, the Scrambler 400 X comes equipped with a 320 mm brake disc at the front, while the rear gets a smaller 230 mm disc.
The Scrambler 400 X gets a hybrid/spine perimeter frame made of tubular steel. The Scrambler offers a taller stance and boasts a seat height of 835 mm and it weighs in at 179 kgs. The bike also gets a 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheel at the front and a 17-inch wheel at the rear. Both the wheels come wrapped with some meaty MRF Zapper Kurve tires.
Features
In terms of the features, the new Scrambler 400 X, just like the 400 Speed, comes equipped with an array of features. Standard equipment includes all-LED lighting, ride-by-wire, switchable traction control, an immobilizer, an assist clutch, a USB-C charging port, and semi-digital instrumentation. The instrument panel features a large analog speedometer accompanied by a small LCD screen, providing a digital tachometer, gear position indicator, trip data, and fuel gauge. The Scrambler 400 X, in addition, gets switchable ABS, a longer front mudguard along with a protective grill for the headlight, radiator, and sump.
Engine
Moving on to the main highlight of the new Scrambler 400 X, the bike comes equipped with a TR-series engine. This is a brand-new single-cylinder, liquid-cooled powerplant developed by Triumph. This engine features DOHC architecture and boasts a displacement of 398cc. The Scrambler 400 X produces a total output of 40hp at 8000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6500rpm.
