Trevoh Chalobah has been left out of Enzo Maresca’s squad for Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States, signalling that he is considered surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Despite playing a full part in pre-season training under Maresca at Cobham this month, Chalobah is now expected to seek a permanent move away from Chelsea in this summer transfer window.
Chelsea regard Wesley Fofana, Axel Disasi and new signing Tosin Adarabioyo as providing quality and squad depth as right-sided centre-backs, while Maresca will use pre-season to look more closely at highly-rated Cobham prospect Josh Acheampong as a right-back alternative to club captain Reece James and Malo Gusto.
Chalobah has turned down several opportunities to leave Chelsea in the last 18 months, including a £25million offer from Nottingham Forest on deadline day of last summer’s transfer window.
A hamstring injury sidelined Chalobah for much of last season, but he forced his way into the starting XI in the final stretch of the 2023-24 campaign and impressed as Mauricio Pochettino’s team finished with five consecutive Premier League victories.
Chalobah is under contract at Chelsea until June 2028.
