Tiger Woods shoots 1-over 72 in Round 1 at Genesis Invitational

Tiger Woods returned to the course Thursday, shooting 1-over 72 in the first round of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. The outing marked his first appearance in a full-field event since the 2023 Masters.

Woods finished the day with five birdies, seven pars and six bogeys. He ended the round eight back of leader Patrick Cantlay.

Woods made a handful of clutch shots. In a notable moment after a bogey at the par-4 10th hole, he saved his round with a long putt for a birdie on the par-5 11th hole. On the 17th hole, Woods nailed a putt for a birdie to return to even par.

Woods annually hosts the Genesis to benefit his TGR Foundation. He said in November that he was considering playing one tournament per month in 2024, starting with the Genesis.

The 15-time majors champion withdrew from the 2023 Masters due to plantar fasciitis and underwent a subsequent ankle surgery. Woods didn’t play in the three remaining majors last year while recovering. He appeared at the Hero World Challenge and the PNC Championship with his son Charlie last year.
