For years, longtime Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford hosted the team’s annual Halloween party. The event took a year off when Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams, in 2021. That wouldn’t do. So last year, defensive end Romeo Okwara—the Grateful Dead-listening, professional photo-taking friend of GQ who just might be the most stylish player in the league—decided to pick up the baton. The holiday always falls midway through the season, which means the party is a helpful release valve—and, with the Lions fresh off a Monday Night Football victory over the Raiders to bring their record to an NFC North-leading 6-2, and steering into their bye week, it couldn’t have come at a better time. “It’s a good chance for the guys to come together in the middle of the year and celebrate something,” Okwara explained. “We spend so much time working together—it’s the one time during the year we can just kind of let loose and have fun outside of the facility.” Keep scrolling for a look—through the lens of Okwara’s camera—at the Detroit Lions Monster Bash.
