Soon after unveiling the brand new 2023 Nexon, Tata Motors has also revealed the 2023 Nexon EV facelift. The company will officially launch and announce the prices of both the new Nexon EV facelift and Nexon facelift in September, but before that, it has officially unveiled both models. Reservations for the Nexon EV facelift will commence on September 9th, while reservations for the Nexon facelift have already begun.
Nexon.ev exterior upgrades
Now, turning to the updates on the new Nexon EV facelift, the company has given the model some design changes to differentiate the Nexon EV from the ICE Nexon facelift. First and foremost, the company has given the new Nexon EV facelift a new name, which is Nexon EV. Secondly, the company has equipped the Nexon EV facelift with a full-width LED DRL at the front. This LED DRL design has been directly taken from the company’s highly anticipated upcoming model, Curvv.
Next, the company has also changed the design of the top portion of the grille on the Nexon EV. On the ICE Nexon facelift, the company added a high-gloss black strip between the LED DRLs, which, by the way, are not connected on the ICE model. This gloss black grille has been changed to a single-tone body color on the Nexon EV, signifying that EVs don’t need a grille, as they do not come equipped with a traditional radiator. Additionally, the company has changed the lower grille to slats on the Nexon EV, one of the major elements distinguishing the EV from the ICE model.
Apart from these changes, both cars look identical from the front and feature the same split headlamp design, with the LED DRLs placed up top and the main LED headlights deep in the bumper inside a trapezoidal-shaped black element. Both cars miss out on fog lamps. Moving on to the side, there are no changes, and both models look exactly the same, including the same design for the alloy wheels. Lastly, the rear-end designs for both models are also the same, with both featuring connected Y-shaped LED taillights and aggressive-looking bumpers.
Nexon.ev interior updates
Regarding the changes to the interior of the Nexon EV facelift, compared to the outgoing model, there is a night-and-day difference. However, when compared to the new Nexon facelift, the difference is only slight. The new Nexon EV facelift gets the same interior as the Nexon facelift, which means it has also been inspired by the upcoming Tata Curvv SUV. It now features a cleaner and more minimalistic dashboard design loaded with features.
Firstly, let’s talk about the main differences in the interior of the Nexon EV facelift and the Nexon facelift. The Nexon EV facelift features a brand-new, even larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, whereas the similar-looking touchscreen on the Nexon facelift measures 10.25 inches. Additionally, the EV facelift gets a traditional-looking gear lever on the center console, which replaces the rotary drive selector in the outgoing Nexon EV.
Apart from the above-mentioned features, the Nexon EV facelift looks identical to the Nexon facelift on the inside. Both cars have the same 10.25-inch digital instrument gauge clusters, which are customizable. They also feature the same touch-based HVAC controls with two physical toggle switches for temperature and blower speed. Furthermore, both cars have a newly designed two-spoke high-gloss black steering wheel, directly taken from the upcoming Tata Curvv.
In terms of features, both the Nexon facelift and Nexon EV facelift come with amenities such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, ventilated and height-adjustable front seats, a JBL 9-speaker system, an air purifier, a single-pane electric sunroof, fast-charging Type-C ports, a wireless charger, and the newly launched Arcade EV app suite. This new feature allows vehicle owners to stream OTT platforms such as Disney+Hotstar and Prime Video.
Nexon.ev platform and safety features
Moving on to the platform, both the new Nexon facelift and the Nexon EV facelift have been based on a new and improved reinforced body structure designed to enhance side pole protection. Additional safety features on the new Nexon EV facelift include six airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), electronic stability control, front parking sensors, three-point seat belts for all occupants, and a blind-view monitor. The car also comes equipped with ISOFIX anchors, hill descent control, along with hill ascent control. It also features disc brakes on all four wheels and a panic brake alert. Lastly, the car comes with emergency and breakdown call alert.
Tata Nexon.ev new nomenclature and batteries
Tata Motors has made significant changes to the powertrain of the Tata Nexon EV, an electric vehicle. They have introduced a facelift, and as part of this update, they have replaced the previous naming conventions (Prime and Max) with new ones, Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR), to distinguish between two different versions of the Nexon EV. The Nexon EV MR still uses a 30kWh battery, whereas the LR variant continues to boast the same larger 40.5kWh battery.
These batteries power the electric vehicle, with the MR version offering a claimed range of 325 kilometers on a single charge, while the LR version can go up to 465 kilometers on a single charge. These ranges have improved by 12 kilometers compared to the previous version, thanks to enhancements in aerodynamics and efficiency. Additionally, both versions have IP67 protection for the batteries, ensuring their safety.
Both versions of the Nexon EV now come with a standard 7.2kW AC charger. Using this charger, customers will be able to recharge the batteries from 10 to 100 percent in approximately 4.3 hours for the MR and 6 hours for the LR. If customers use a DC fast charger, this charging time reduces significantly to just 56 minutes for both versions. What’s interesting is that the Nexon EV now supports V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) and V2L (vehicle-to-load) charging capabilities, allowing you to charge other electrical appliances or even another electric vehicle using the power from the Nexon EV. This is a convenient feature for users.
Nexon.ev new motor
To enhance efficiency further, Tata has equipped the Nexon EV with tires that have the lowest rolling resistance in the country. This means that the vehicle can move more smoothly and with less energy consumption. The new Gen-2 permanent magnet synchronous motor in the Nexon EV is lighter by 20 kilograms and uses 30 percent fewer rare earth materials compared to the previous motor. It also features improved cooling and battery management, along with more efficient components. The vehicle now offers a four-level brake regeneration, which has been improved by 10-15 percent, and you can control this regeneration using paddle shifters.
In terms of performance, the MR version of the Nexon EV produces 129 horsepower and 215 Newton-meters of torque, while the LR version generates 145 horsepower and the same 215 Newton-meters of torque. Interestingly, the MR variant has slightly less torque compared to the previous version, with a decrease of 30 Newton-meters, and the LR variant’s torque is down by 38 Newton-meters. Tata claims that the LR version can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.9 seconds, has a top speed of 150 kilometers per hour, and offers improved noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels. There are three driving modes available – Eco, City, and Sport, allowing drivers to choose their preferred driving style.
