Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino will be out at least six to eight weeks with a broken right thumb, the club announced Friday morning. He will undergo additional tests today.
Pasquantino was injured Thursday night during a collision at first base with Houston’s Yainer Diaz in a 6-3 loss to the Astros in Houston. The collision came after an errant throw from reliever Lucas Erceg, who had attempted to field a come-backer with his bare hand. Erceg also left the game after the play.

Pasquantino is hitting .262 with 19 homers and 97 RBIs for the Royals, who are 1 ½ games behind the Guardians in the AL Central and in position for an AL Wild Card spot.
It was just the latest injury in the past week. Outfielder Hunter Renfroe and starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen each went on the injured list with a hamstring strain.
