Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham to have groin injury assessed ahead of El Clasico

Real Madrid say Jude Bellingham has a slight discomfort in the groin area after the midfielder was withdrawn late on in their Champions League win at Braga.

Bellingham appeared to be injured and was taken off in the 89 minute, with Lucas Vazquez replacing him. The plan is to allow Bellingham to rest tomorrow and check his condition again on Thursday.

There is optimism at this stage that he will be OK to face Barcelona in Saturday’s Clasico.

Bellingham had doubled Madrid’s lead in the second half with a well-taken effort from just inside the Braga penalty area. That goal was the 20-year-old’s 11th this season for his new side in only his 12th match. He has started all three of Madrid’s Champions League matches and nine of their 10 La Liga fixtures, only being rested for the 2-0 win over Las Palmas at the end of September.

Bellingham joined Madrid from Borussia Dortmund for an initial €103million (£88m; $110m) fee that could rise to a club record.
