Real Madrid striker Alvaro Rodriguez set to join Getafe in loan deal

Getafe are set to sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Rodriguez on a season-long loan.

The Athletic revealed in June that Madrid would listen to offers for the Spanish-Uruguayan and, weeks later, that Getafe had contacted Madrid over a deal.

However, Getafe head coach Jose Bordalas requested to club president Angel Torres to halt the deal in order to prioritise the arrival of a more experienced attacker.

The contacts never stopped while Rodriguez also had informal interest from other clubs such as Real Sociedad, and the agreement is very close now.

Madrid began the summer asking for around €10million for 50 per cent of the player’s economic rights, although they were aware that no club would bid at that amount, as was the case with Nico Paz, whose 50 per cent was sold to Como for €6m.

Finally, in the case of Rodriguez, who renewed his deal most recently in 2022 through until 2027, it has been decided to accept a loan deal.
