There was so much brilliant action to enjoy in the Champions League yesterday evening, so we’ll split this into two parts.
And where better to start than with a resounding victory for Sporting Lisbon — managed by incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim — against Manchester City, who have now lost three games in a row.
Viktor Gyokeres won the battle of the devastating No 9s against Erling Haaland as he scored a hat-trick while his Norwegian counterpart missed a penalty and went without a goal.
Elsewhere, there were big wins for PSV — led by the USMNT’s Malik Tillman — and Dinamo Zagreb.
Yesterday’s Champions League results – Part 1
- PSV 4-0 Girona (Flamingo, Tillman, Bakayoko, Krejci OG)
- Slovan Bratislava 1-4 Dinamo Zagreb (Strelec; Spikic, Sucic, Kulenovic x2)
- Lille 1-1 Juventus (David; Vlahovic)
- Sporting Lisbon 4-1 Manchester City (Gyokeres x3, Araujo; Foden)
