Popular tribal singer from Kerala buys a new Kia Sonet SUV [Video]

She bought a brand new Kia Sonet SUV.

The video has been shared by One India Malayalam on their YouTube channel. The singer, Nanjiyamma, is from a tribal community in Palakkad district’s Attappadi region. The 65-year-old Nanjiyamma garnered public attention after singing a song in a Malayalam movie in 2020. The film’s title song, “Kalakkatha,” was written by Nanjiyamma in the Irula language. For the very same song, Nanjiyamma also won the National Award for the best playback singer. She is actually a folksinger of Azad Kala Samithi.

After her song went viral on the internet, Nanjiyamma started getting offers for other movies as well. She has been doing well for herself lately and has been performing several stage shows within the country and abroad. Nanjiyamma recently bought the Kia Sonet SUV. It is a brand new SUV, and the singer bought the car in an Aurora Black shade. The exact details, such as the variant and the transmission, are not available in the video.

In the video that has been circulating online, we can see Nanjiyamma taking delivery of her brand new car. We are not sure whether Nanjiyamma is going to drive the car herself or if she is going to be driven around by a driver or someone else. The SUV is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel variant of the Sonet uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that generates 100 PS and 240 Nm of peak torque. It is available with a 6-speed iMT and automatic transmission option. The petrol version uses a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine that generates 81 bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with a manual transmission only. The last engine is a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder, turbo petrol engine. This engine generates 118 bhp and 172 Nm of peak torque. The car comes with a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT gearbox option. The price for the Kia Sonet starts at Rs 7.79 lakh, ex-showroom, and goes up to Rs 14.89 lakh, ex-showroom.
