In pursuit of its fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal, the United States survived a difficult quarterfinal against Hungary on Tuesday, winning 5-4 behind Rachel Fattal’s go-ahead goal.
Next up is Australia, which hasn’t medaled at the Games since 2012. The teams haven’t met yet, but the Aussies are an impressive 5-0 so far, including a 9-6 win over Greece in the quarters.
The Netherlands and Spain meet in the other semifinal at 8:35 a.m. ET. A U.S.-Spain final would be a rematch of the July 29 group-stage game, when the Spanish handed the Americans their second loss in the last four Olympics.
