The American SUV manufacturer Jeep, which is owned by Stellantis Group, is aiming to move towards a sustainable future. It has recently been reported that the next-generation Jeep Compass, codenamed J4U, is set to be launched with an all-electric drivetrain, in addition to EV powertrain options. Reports have stated that this upcoming electric Jeep Compass is scheduled for release in 2026. The company has developed a new electric and ICE-compatible platform, and the Jeep Compass EV will be based on this platform.
According to Autocar India, the upcoming Jeep Compass EV will be underpinned by the Stellantis STLA M platform. This all-new architecture was unveiled by Stellantis back in July of the previous year. This platform, according to the company, has been designed with electrification at its core. It will offer flexibility by accommodating various powertrains, including traditional internal combustion engines (ICE) and new electric drivetrains.
Performance, Range, and Dimensions
The STLA M platform, as per the company, boasts the flexibility to accommodate front-wheel drive as well as all-wheel drive layouts. The companies utilizing this platform will be able to equip battery packs up to 98 kWh. The electric variant of the Compass is expected to offer two battery pack options – a Standard pack with a range surpassing 500 km and a Performance pack boasting a remarkable WLTP range exceeding 700 km.
Additionally, this new platform will offer very efficient energy consumption at less than 14 kWh per 100 km. Charging capabilities are equally remarkable, with a 20-80 percent charge achieved in just 27 minutes, delivering a fast charging rate of 2.4 kWh per minute. The STLA Medium platform’s modular design will also allow for variations in vehicle lengths (4.3-4.9m) and wheelbases (2.7-2.9m). Notably, Jeep’s sister brand, Citroen, is also expected to utilize this platform for its upcoming models in India.
Other Powertrain Options
In addition to the new electrified version, Jeep will also be offering the upcoming Compass with other powertrain options. These options will include turbo-petrol and diesel engine options. Currently in India, the Jeep Compass is offered with only a single diesel engine option in the country. It is a 2.0-litre engine that produces a maximum power of 167 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. It comes with a six-speed manual and automatic transmission option.
Jeep Compass 4X2 Automatic
In other Jeep Compass news, back in September of last year, the company is now offering the Compass diesel with the 9-speed automatic transmission in the 4X2 variants as well. Prior to this, the Jeep Compass came with this transmission only in the top-spec 4X4 trims. The company has launched the new Jeep Compass 4X2 automatic variants with a starting price of Rs 23.99 lakh. Additionally, the company has lowered the pricing of the base variant of this car, and it now starts at Rs 20.49 lakh.
For the new 2023 model year, the company has also introduced a new variant to the lineup of their popular SUV. Now the Jeep Compass comes available in 5 variants, namely the Sport, Longitude, Longitude+, Limited, and Model S. The biggest update for the Jeep Compass is that the 9-speed automatic transmission now becomes available starting from the newly launched Longitude variant. This variant has been priced at Rs 23.99 lakh, which is almost Rs 6 lakh lower than the previous Limited 4X4 automatic variant.
