Newcastle United have submitted a fourth bid for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The Athletic reported on Monday that Newcastle were considering pursuing alternative options after failing with a third bid for Guehi.
But the Tyneside club have now tabled an improved proposal for the 24-year-old that could be worth up to £65million including add-ons.
Earlier this week, Palace chairman Steve Parish said it would take “superstar money” for the club to part ways with Guehi, who was one of England’s standout performers at the European Championship.
“We would like to keep hold of him,” Parish told BBC Sport. “There is a price and a situation where we might consider it.”
He added: “Realistically, he is homegrown, 24-years-old and a sensational talent – so somebody has to make it difficult for us. At the moment, it isn’t.”
Oliver Glasner was quizzed on Guehi’s future during his press conference before Palace’s Premier League opener against Brentford on Saturday.
Asked whether he expects Guehi to remain at the club, the Palace head coach said: “Marc trained today with us, we talked together. No other information. I’ll have to look at my bank account to see if anything came in but doesn’t look like it. He is our player, our captain, I can’t tell you anything else.”
Guehi has impressed at Palace since joining from Chelsea for £18million in the summer of 2021, featuring 111 times for the Selhurst Park side over the last three seasons.
He was made vice-captain at Palace last term and made 29 appearances despite missing almost three months with a knee injury.
His form has seen him become a regular in England squads and Guehi started all but one of his country’s matches at the European Championship as they reached the final, only missing out in the quarter-finals due to suspension.
Newcastle have strengthened their defence with the arrival of Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer from Bournemouth, with Lewis Hall also signing permanently after his loan spell from Chelsea last season.
Elsewhere, Eddie Howe’s side have brought in William Osula from Sheffield United, Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest and John Ruddy.
