Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky will step down as Republican leader in the Senate in November, a new report said.

McConnell, 82, is set to speak about his plans to give up the leadership post on Wednesday in an address in the Senate, The Associated Press reported.

McConnell, who is the long-serving Senate caucus leader in history, plans to keep his seat in the chamber. His term ends in January 2027.
