Michigan fires linebackers coach Chris Partridge

Michigan has fired linebackers coach Chris Partridge, the school announced Friday. Rick Minter will serve as the team’s linebackers coach.

The team did not disclose a reason for Partridge’s firing.

The news comes a day after Michigan and the Big Ten announced they resolved their legal dispute and that coach Jim Harbaugh will serve the rest of his three-game suspension as punishment for Michigan’s scouting and sign-stealing scandal. Harbaugh will miss Saturday’s game at Maryland and Michigan’s regular-season finale against Ohio State.

The Big Ten agreed to close its investigation, while an NCAA inquiry remains ongoing.

Michigan staffer Connor Stalions resigned earlier this month after he was initially suspended with pay by Michigan while at the center of the NCAA’s investigation into the scouting and sign-stealing scheme.

Partridge served on Michigan’s staff from 2015 through 2019 and returned to the team for the 2023 season after working on Ole Miss’ coaching staff from 2020 to 2022.

The Wolverines (10-0) enter this weekend No. 3 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

This will be updated.
