The off-roading scene in India is growing every day at a very rapid speed. A number of people are now buying off-road specific SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, Mahindra Thar, and Force Gurkha. These people are then finding new off-road courses and testing the limits of these cars, even comparing them with each other. Most recently, a video of the comparison of all three of these lifestyle off-roaders has been shared on YouTube. Spoiler alert: the Jimny outperforms both the Thar and the Gurkha with ease.
The video of the Jimny vs. Thar vs. Gurkha has been shared on YouTube by Prashant Adventure on their channel. The video starts off with a small hill climb where the Mahindra Thar attempts to tackle it first before the other two SUVs. The guide and presenter in the video direct all the drivers to first tackle all the obstacles on the course with 4X2 mode, and then if they fail, engage 4X4 mode. As the Thar starts the first obstacle in 4X2 mode, it gets stopped right after a small climb.
The driver of the Thar then puts the vehicle in 4X4 mode. Soon after, the Thar climbs the hill. Next up, the Force Gurkha comes onto the obstacle with 4X2 mode and gets stopped even before the Thar does. However, after engaging 4X4 mode, it zooms past easily. Following this, the Jimny starts its course, and in 4X2 mode, it travels the farthest of the three. The driver then puts the Jimny in 4X4 mode, and without any hiccups, the car glides over the obstacle and reaches the top.
After this, the presenter and the guide try to test another capability of these SUVs. This was a direct climb on grass. The Mahindra Thar attempts this obstacle first, but despite being in 4X4 mode, it is unable to clear it in one go. So, next up comes the Jimny, which clears the obstacle without a single issue. It reaches the top without any wheel spin. Taking note of this, another driver then jumps back into the Thar and with a different approach, also clears the same obstacle. The presenter adds that the Gurkha’s front hub is making some weird noises, so they won’t be taking the risk of doing this obstacle with it.
Moving on, the presenter of the video then mentions that for the last test of these three SUVs, they will be testing the articulation. The presenter then asks the Thar driver to first drive the right wheel of the vehicle onto a raised area and keep the left wheel on the ground. This shows the articulation of the Thar, and it passes with flying colors. Not a single wheel of the Thar spins at any angle, showing its capabilities. Next up, the Jimny performs the same task.
The SUV then shows its articulation capabilities. However, at one point, the front right and left rear tires of the Jimny do a wheel spin, but the car still manages to perform amazingly. Lastly, the presenter brings the Force Gurkha and asks the driver to perform the same obstacle. However, the Gurkha even before starting the task wheel spins, showing its poor articulation capabilities. The car then also moves ahead, but it can be noted that there is little to no articulation in the Force Gurkha. Also, its tall design seems to be the most prone to toppling in this particular task. Overall, in this video, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny came out on top of all three SUVs.
