It appears a bit of a mystery. That Chelsea’s mega-bucks record signing Enzo Fernandez is being left out of central midfield in favour of a 20-year-old, Romeo Lavia, alongside Moises Caicedo.
But Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, speaking in his pre-match press conference, explained that it is a ‘matter of balance’.
He said: “In this moment, Romeo and Moi give us also physicality, strength in the middle, and this is the reason we found (to play) Malo (Gusto) in the pocket.
“Otherwise when we play with Enzo, it has to be Enzo and then one between Moi and Romeo, and when Enzo moves we struggle a little bit in the middle in terms of physicality.
“I still trust Enzo, there is not any reason in the world that I can lose confidence in him. The reason why he’s not playing in the Premier League is because I take a different decision, but my confidence is 100 per cent with Enzo.”
