Manchester City have completed the signing of defender Rebecca Knaak from FC Rosengard.
The 28-year-old centre-back has signed a one-and-a-half-year deal which runs until the summer of 2026.
Her addition follows the knee injury sustained by City captain Alex Greenwood, who underwent medial collateral ligament surgery in December and is set for an extended period on the sidelines.
“When I heard about the interest, I didn’t have to think about it because it’s such a big, big opportunity which I wanted to take,” Knaak said. “The club has the highest ambitions and goals, and this also matches my own ambitions. I’m very proud and I feel honoured to be part of this big club.”
In making the move to Manchester, Knaak will again work under Therese Sjogran, City Women’s new director of football, who joined the club from Rosengard in October.
“It was helpful for me that I already know Therese,” Knaak said. “I really trust her and her abilities, so it gives me a good feeling.”
Sjogran added: “Rebecca played some of the best football of her career to date last season – culminating in her being named the Damallsvenskan defender of the year – and I’m pleased to bring such a seasoned professional to the club.
“She gives her all on and off the pitch, which will help us challenge for trophies.”
Knaak spent three years at Rosengard after joining the club from Freiburg, winning two Damallsvenskan titles. The former Germany youth international made 19 appearances during their 2024 title-winning campaign, where she was often deployed on the left of a back three.
City are second in the Women’s Super League, six points behind leaders Chelsea.
Gareth Taylor’s side return to action on January 12 against Ipswich Town in the FA Cup fourth round.
