Manchester City have confirmed the appointment of Therese Sjogran as their new women’s director of football.
The Athletic reported earlier this month that Sjogran was due to arrive to replace Nils Nielsen who stepped down in June.
Sjogran, 47, joins from FC Rosengard in her native Sweden, where she previously played before becoming their sporting director in 2015. Rosengard won three Swedish titles in the time Sjogran was sporting director.
At City, the former midfielder will work with head coach Gareth Taylor, who signed a new three-year deal in March that keeps him at the club until 2027, while managing director Charlotte O’Neill leads the women’s team’s business operations.
A City statement added that Sjogran will “take charge of recruitment across the women’s and girls’ pathway at the Joie Stadium, as well as first-team coach and player development.”

“We’re delighted to have Therese join as our new women’s director of football,” O’Neill said on the appointment.
“She is an undisputed icon of the game and has made a real impact on and off the pitch in both a playing and directorial capacity over the past two decades.
“We have a fantastic team working behind the scenes to help the club compete for the top honours, and Therese is an excellent addition to that cohort.”
Sjogran featured 214 times for Sweden in her playing career and also had a stint at Sky Blue FC, which is now NJ/NY Gotham FC.
City have yet to win the Women’s Super League (WSL) but have finished as runners-up seven times. This season, they are top of the WSL after five matches, having played a game more than reigning champions Chelsea.
