Three people have been arrested for alleged attempted murder after Barcelona and Spain forward Lamine Yamal’s father was stabbed on Wednesday evening.
Mounir Nasraoui, 38, is in a stable condition in hospital and remains under observation.
Nasraoui was taken to Can Ruti hospital in Badalona following the incident in Mataro, a Catalan coastal town located 30 kilometres north east of Barcelona.
A statement from Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalonia police force, read: “Today at around 9.10 p.m. a person was stabbed in the Rocafonda neighbourhood of Mataro. Three people have been arrested in connection with these events for attempted murder.”
Nasraoui was regularly pictured in Germany this summer supporting his son Yamal, 17, at the European Championship.
Yamal played seven times at Euro 2024, scoring once and providing four assists, as Spain were crowned European champions. The forward, who turned 17 ahead of the Euro 2024 final, was named Young Player of the Tournament.
Yamal is a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy and had a breakthrough season during the 2023-24 campaign. He made 50 appearances in all competitions, providing seven goals and nine assists. The teenager became Barcelona’s youngest ever La Liga starter and the youngest goalscorer in La Liga history.
