After recently launching the Seltos facelift, Kia is now preparing to introduce the facelifted version of its smallest offering in India, the Sonet sub-compact SUV. A heavily camouflaged test mule of the Kia Sonet facelift has been spotted during trial runs in India, weeks after it was seen being tested overseas. The new Sonet facelift is expected to hit the market in December 2023.
Though heavily covered, a few design highlights are visible on the test mule of the Kia Sonet facelift spotted by MotorBeam. It will feature updated all-LED headlamps with larger LED DRLs compared to the current model. Like the Seltos facelift, the updated Sonet will also sport a redesigned front grille and bumper, with revised fog lamp housings.
The side profile of the test mule reveals new 16-inch machined alloy wheels, and the top-spec GT-Line version appears to have red brake callipers. Additionally, the rearview mirrors seem to have integrated cameras, suggesting the inclusion of a 360-degree parking camera setup. The rear profile showcases larger LED tail lamps connected by an LED light bar.
While the interior was not fully visible on the test mule, it is expected that the Sonet facelift will come with a new driver cockpit, featuring a fully-digital instrument console, and revised touchscreen infotainment system and centre console.
The Sonet facelift is anticipated to offer new features such as a powered driver’s seat and dashcam, similar to those found in the Hyundai Venue N-Line. Existing features like ventilated front seats, wireless charger, sunroof, and automatic climate control will likely be retained, and the new Sonet may also incorporate an ADAS suite of safety features.
No mechanical changes
Regarding powertrain options, the Kia Sonet facelift is likely to maintain the same choices as the current version. The sub-compact SUV offers three powertrains – two petrol and one diesel. Lower-spec variants come with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder 83 PS petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Mid-spec and higher-spec variants feature the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged 120 PS petrol engine, available with either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT. Additionally, the 1.5-litre four-cylinder 115 PS diesel engine will be offered with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options.
