Some guys prefer to keep their shoes box-fresh. But Keanu Reeves? He likes to wear his straight into the ground. Just take a look at the chukka boots he rocked earlier this week.
While out and about in Los Angeles, The Matrix star was spotted opening the car door for his girlfriend, Alexandra Grant. A gent! But while his piano black Porsche 911 looked nice and shiny and new, his Ugg Neumel boots were quite the opposite. The suede uppers were warped and wrinkled. The once-caramel tones had deepened with age. The heels had caved-in slightly. And the midsoles were so worn they were almost completely smooth. In other words, they were the ideal winter beater boots: the unbeatably comfortable, supremely versatile sort you can rely on every single day.

Reeves has always worn his shoes until the very end. Think of the Magellan & Mulloy boots that he recently wore at a 10th anniversary screening of John Wick. They’re meant to be worn on motorcycles—of which the Canadian actor owns quite a few—but he doesn’t mind slipping them on with a classic suit, either. And like his Uggs, these were also lovingly worn-in.
In the same way that Austin Butler once wore his trusty Carhartt jacket every day for a year straight, or that A$AP Rocky is rarely seen without a Bottega Veneta bag at his side, beaten-up boots are an integral part of Reeves’ uniform. Finding a staple you believe in and trust so wholeheartedly is a rare and special thing.
So be like Keanu Reeves. Get some Uggs. Wear them into the ground. And even when they look like they’re done, just keep thrashing ’em until they’re really done.
