HOUSTON — The New York Mets’ first home run of the 2025 season fittingly came off the bat of Juan Soto.
Soto laced a solo shot off the façade of the second deck in right field with two outs in the third inning. The home run put the Mets up 3-0 against the Astros.
Hunter Brown had struck out Soto in his first at-bat, with Soto appearing unhappy with a checked-swing call and a called strike three. He got revenge in his second at-bat: After fouling off a slider down and on the inner third to fall behind 1-2, Soto pounced on a cutter up and in. It was a no-doubter.

Soto’s long ball comes a day after he struck out with the tying runs on base against Josh Hader to end New York’s 3-1 Opening Day loss.
Still, he’s reached base in four of his first eight plate appearances with the Mets.
Soto’s first home run as a Yankee last season also came in this ballpark, in his third game with the club. Soto’s first homer with the Mets is the 202nd of his career.
