With Joker: Folie à Deux finally hitting theaters this Friday, Joaquin Phoenix has been dressing his socks off on the press tour.
Last night, the Oscar winner hit Los Angeles for the red-carpet premiere of his next big blockbuster. And while you could’ve just focused on the classic suit and the just-messy-enough hair, devout style spotters were taken by something else: his sunglasses.
From Saint Laurent’s SL 375 to Tom Ford’s Jack, Phoenix has long been a saint of good sunglasses. But for the Joker press trail, he pulled out a pair from Cali-based eyewear label Garrett Leight. This particular model is the Ace Sun.
This silhouette features a Wayfarer design and is made from cellulose acetate, a hard-wearing material that refines cotton or wood pulp. Shiny metal palm leaves are attached to the corners, and it’s fitted with a pair of rose-colored lenses. It’s a stone-cold classic, and better yet, it’s actually not that pricey—especially when you compare it to the shades that a lot of other very famous dudes wear (a pair of culty Jacques Marie Mage frames can cost upwards of $800).
Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jeremy Allen White are all proud owners of Garrett Leight frames. But none of them are quite as big a fan as Phoenix, who’s been repping ’em for five years straight. At the 2019 Venice Film Festival, he also pulled up in the Ace—that time in a black-on-black colorway.
If you’re looking to see the world the way Phoenix does, you’re in luck: his exact Garrett Leight shades are still in stock for $385.
