Hyundai To Launch 5 New Electric SUVs In India: Details

Hyundai is stepping up its electric vehicle (EV) game in the Indian market. The company has announced plans to introduce five locally produced EV models for the Indian market by 2030.

Creta EV

The first launch will be the Creta EV, which is the electrified version of the regular Creta. The launch of this EV is scheduled for 2025 before the launch of Maruti Suzuki eVX. Test mules have been spotted multiple times, revealing interesting details. Hyundai has confirmed the production of the Creta EV will start by the end of 2024. With an expected range of around 500km, it will feature a design similar to that of the recently updated ICE Creta. The expected price range for this EV is Rs 22 lakh to Rs 26 lakh.

As per reports, the Creta EV will be equipped with a 45 kWh battery pack. In addition to this, it will borrow its motor from the entry-level variant of the Kona EV, which produces 138 PS and 255 Nm. The Creta EV will compete with the MG ZS EV and upcoming EVs such as the Maruti Suzuki eVX, Tata Curvv EV and Toyota’s badge-engineered version of the eVX, called the Urban SUV.

Venue EV

Similar to the Creta EV, Hyundai will also launch an electrified version of their sub 4m SUV, the Venue. The Venue EV will compete in the fiercely contested EV segment, which includes players such as Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 400 EV. It will inherit design cues and features from the next-generation Venue, which is scheduled for launch in 2025. The current Venue, launched in 2019, received a facelift in 2022, setting the stage for its electric counterpart.

Alcazar EV

Similar to the ICE duo of Alcazar and Creta, the Alcazar EV will be an extended version of the Creta EV. With the launch of Alcazar EV, Hyundai’s EV portfolio will be well diversified, with electric vehicles in all the major segments. Next in line is the Alcazar EV, a logical progression from the Creta EV. Before the EV version, we can expect the launch of the updated 2024 Alcazar on which the EV version will be based.

Exter EV

Moving towards more budget-friendly options, Hyundai plans to introduce the Exter EV. Positioned in the Rs. 10-12 lakh price bracket, it will rival EVs such as the Tiago EV, Punch EV, MG Comet, and Tata Tigor EV. With the launch of Exter EV, Hyundai aims to make EVs more accessible and capture a bigger share of the growing Indian EV market.

Ioniq 5

In addition to this, Hyundai will start the local assembly of the Ioniq 5 to control costs. This premium offering from Hyundai competes with the Kia EV6 and BYD Seal EV.
