Hyundai Exter awarded ‘India’s best design project’ at Design Awards 2023



Hyundai Motor India’s entry-level SUV, the Exter, received several prestigious awards at India’s Best Design Awards 2023 by Design India. The Exter secured the ‘India’s Best Design Project’ Award, while the Hyundai Advanced Design India team was recognized as ‘India’s Best In-House Studio.’

Chohee Park, Head of Department at HMIE Hyundai Advanced Design India, expressed gratitude for the recognition, attributing it to the collaborative efforts of the global design team and the dedicated India design team. Their primary focus was to understand the aspirations of Gen MZ customers in the country and reimagine the Hyundai SUV lifestyle.
The Exter adheres to Hyundai’s Global Design Identity of ‘Sensuous Sportiness,’ aiming to create a progressive yet unique SUV. It proudly embodies Hyundai’s SUV DNA, leaving a lasting impression on the road with its innovative exterior design. The vehicle has garnered praise from both consumers and industry experts, validating Hyundai’s forward-looking approach and the team’s dedication.

Inspired by outdoor travel, the Hyundai Exter incorporates dynamic design elements. Its bold characteristics reflect the essence of a trendy, lifestyle-oriented SUV. The Exter boasts an imposing front fascia, distinctive Signature H-LED DRLs, and an iconic character, promising an SUV design that exceeds consumer expectations. The perfectly balanced ergonomics ensure maximum rear visibility for passengers, enhancing all-around visibility. Under the Exter’s hood is a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that generates 83 BHP and 114 Nm of torque when fueled by petrol. In the CNG configuration, the power figures are reduced to 69 BHP and 95.2 Nm. The petrol variant offers a choice between a 5-speed manual gearbox or an Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT), while the CNG version is exclusively equipped with a manual transmission.

The Exter’s powerplant, a 1.2L Kappa petrol engine, also used in other Hyundai models, delivers a performance of 83hp and 114Nm of torque. Available in both petrol and CNG options, the Exter offers either a manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. The CNG iteration, sharing the same engine, delivers slightly reduced power figures of 69hp and 95.2Nm of torque. In terms of efficiency, the CNG variant achieves a mileage of around 27.1 km/kg, while the petrol variant offers 19.4 kmpl.

Despite its cost-effective positioning, the Hyundai Exter refuses to compromise on features. It comes equipped with factory-fitted dashcams, automatic projector headlamps, keyless entry and start, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging, and built-in navigation. Safety is paramount, with the inclusion of six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), hill assist control, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), rear parking sensors and camera, and three-point seatbelts for all passengers.
