Graham Potter declines approach to manage Lyon

Graham Potter has declined the chance to replace Laurent Blanc as Lyon boss after being approached by the Ligue 1 side.

Potter was identified as the top candidate of Lyon owner John Textor amid mounting pressure on Blanc.

The 48-year-old viewed the possible vacancy as an appealing opportunity at an historic and aspiring club.

But ultimately Potter decided it was not the right time to make his return and politely passed on the patenting opening as he continues to evaluate his future.

Potter has been out of a job since being sacked by Chelsea in April.

He previously had a hugely successful spell with Brighton, having finished ninth in 2021-22 with the south coast side.

Potter had been at Brighton since 2019, having joined from Championship club Swansea City.

Lyon, meanwhile, are bottom of Ligue 1, having drawn once and lost three from their opening four league matches this season.
