Get Austin Butler’s Hair

Hollywood’s A-list actors have inspired some big hair trends in recent years. The mullet recently had a run thanks to Paul Mescal, and Leonardo DiCaprio once popularized the slicked-back style. And never forget the Noah Beck TikTok hair, aka the broccoli perm. Right now, though, the style du jour is a naturally low-effort messy ‘do. and One of the internet’s favorite actors, Austin Butler, is on board.

“There is definitely a trend at the moment that harks back to the ’90s when hair was a lot messier and grungier—think Brad Pitt in Fight Club,” says Larry King, a London-based celebrity hair stylist. “We’re seeing it on the likes of Austin Butler, Timothée Chalamet and Tom Holland. It’s much more about embracing the natural texture and enhancing it—and just being able to freely move the hair around.”

There are a couple of reasons why people are turning to this classic ’90s style. “I think this effortless look has a rebellious and playfulness element that it is very appealing to some men,” says hairstylist Carlos Ferraz, who has previously worked with the likes of Theo James, Eddie Redmayne and Ncuti Gatwa. “It’s a very versatile look as it can also be a great balance and addition for a more formal dress code.”

It’s a departure from Butler’s previous look. We’re sure your Instagram feed was saturated with shots from his Elvis press tour back in 2022—all structured tailoring and James Dean-esque pompadour hair—but for the Dune Part II promo, he looked much more relaxed. He’s opted for relaxed suits and “I woke up like this” hair in recent public appearances. We’ve got his hair stylist, Amy Komorowski, to thank for the latter. With a client list that includes Jacob Elordi, The Jonas Brothers and Adam Driver, it seems she’s nailed the naturally tousled look.
