Frank Lloyd Wright’s former residence at New York’s famed Plaza Hotel has landed on the market for $18.9 million, per Robb Report. From 1954 until his death in 1959, the architect lived in the fourth-floor corner suite at the iconic establishment while working on his last major work: the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. He decorated the dwelling, which boasts views of Central Park, with black lacquer furnishings and entertained the likes of Georgia O’Keeffe, Marilyn Monroe, and Arthur Miller there, according to the outlet.
In 2009, Galerie magazine founder Lisa Cohen and her husband, Hudson Capital Properties founder James Cohen, paid $13 million for the 4,000-square-foot unit. They tapped Louis Lisboa of VL Architects and interior designer Susanna Maggard to help them with a complete gut renovation. In 2014, the resulting Art Deco–inspired interiors were featured in Architectural Digest. “For my husband’s business, we travel to different countries constantly,” Lisa told AD at the time. “We’ve been entertained so beautifully, and I wanted to be able to do the same for guests here.” To that end, the couple transformed the one-bedroom unit into a four-bedroom, four-bathroom home with an expanded living room. The Cohens listed the property in 2016 for $26 million before taking it off the market later that year.
