Veteran tight end Zach Ertz is returning to the Washington Commanders on a one-year, $6.5 million deal, league sources said. Ertz can earn up to $9.5 million with incentives, the sources said.

In 2024, Ertz had his healthiest season in years while playing all 17 regular-season games and recording 66 receptions for 654 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. His success continued into the Commanders’ stunning playoff run, where he logged 18 catches for 155 yards and one touchdown.

Ertz joined Washington on a one-year deal last spring, coming off a 2023 season in which he played only seven games with the Arizona Cardinals. He had a short season while dealing with a quad injury before the Cardinals released him that November. Ertz then had a brief stop with the Detroit Lions in early 2024 before signing with the Commanders.

Ertz’s move to Washington reunited him with former Arizona coach Kliff Kingsbury, the Commanders’ offensive coordinator.
