Coming soon: Lane Keep Assist feature for the recently-launched Tata Safari and Harrier SUVs

Tata Motors is set to enhance the safety features of its Harrier and Safari SUVs with the introduction of lane-keep assist, a valuable addition to the existing Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package. This feature aims to prevent lane departure by actively intervening in the steering, even when the driver doesn’t provide input.

Earlier this year, Tata Motors introduced several ADAS features in the pre-facelift versions of the Harrier and Safari, including forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, and lane departure warning. However, lane-keep assist was notably absent from the suite. This functionality becomes possible with the transition from a hydraulic power steering system to an electronic power steering system in the facelifted SUVs.

While the lane-keep assist feature was not introduced in the recently launched Harrier and Safari facelifts, Tata Motors has assured early buyers that it will be added later through a software update. This update will enable lane-keep assist and further enhance the safety features of the vehicles.

The inclusion of lane-keep assist not only adds an extra layer of safety to the Harrier and Safari but also complements their strong safety credentials. Both SUVs recently achieved a 5-star Global NCAP rating for adult and occupant protection. Moreover, they secured the highest scores ever recorded in the Safer Cars for India program. Tata Motors has the safest line-up of affordable cars in India, and this has given the automaker a solid standing among car buyers.

In addition to the steering system’s software update, Tata Motors plans to provide over-the-air (OTA) updates for the advanced infotainment system in the facelifted Harrier, Safari, and Nexon models. This proactive approach to enhancing vehicle features ensures that customers continue to enjoy cutting-edge technology and safety in their Tata vehicles.

Tata Motors’ commitment to improving safety and technology features in its SUV lineup reflects its dedication to delivering a top-notch driving experience to its customers. The introduction of lane-keep assist, along with the existing ADAS package and OTA updates, will make the Harrier and Safari even more appealing to those looking for advanced safety and technology in their vehicles. The Harrier competes with the MG Hector, higher variants of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos while the Safari takes on the Mahindra XUV700, Scorpio and the Hyundai Alcazar.
