Citroën India, the Indian subsidiary of the French automaker Citroën, has launched the all-new C3 Aircross compact SUV in India. This new model has shaken things up in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment as it has taken the crown of being the most affordable SUV in the segment. The new C3 Aircross has been launched at Rs 9.99 lakh. At the moment, the company has launched it only with a 6-speed manual gearbox; however, it has now been reported that the company could be launching an automatic variant as well. The Citroën C3 Aircross automatic could be arriving before the end of this year.
C3 Aircross Automatic
Citroën launched the C3 Aircross a month ago in the Indonesian automotive market, and it received a 6-speed automatic transmission as standard. According to reports, the company will most likely be offering the same 6-speed automatic transmission, which it is offering in the C3 Aircross in the Indonesian market, in India as well. It was reported a while ago that the reason the company is not launching the C3 Aircross with an automatic transmission at the same time as the manual model is that it could not source an automatic transmission supplier in time.
As for the powertrain, this new 6-speed automatic transmission Citroën will come equipped with the same 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine as the manual variant. This engine is capable of producing a maximum of 110 bhp of power and 190 Nm of torque. It has also been reported that the C3 Aircross with the automatic transmission in the Indonesian market produces around 205 Nm of torque. So most likely, the automatic transmission model coming to India will also be getting this torque figure bump. At the moment, the exact date of launch for this model has not been made public.
The Citroën C3 Aircross, as mentioned above, has become the most affordable mid-size SUV in India. This model undercuts each and every SUV in the segment, including the previous most affordable model, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The C3 Aircross is also the only model in the segment that is being offered with a 5+2 seating layout. This layout, however, will become available with mid-spec Plus and the top-of-the-line Max variant.
In terms of the design, the brand new Citroën C3 Aircross looks unmistakably like a Citroën. It gets the same Y-shaped signature LED headlamps and its popular double grille. Dimensionally, the C3 Aircross is 4.3 meters in length, 1654 mm in height, and 1796 mm in width. On the inside, the new Citroën C3 Aircross features a 10-inch (26cm) touchscreen infotainment system, which will come equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car will also get a new 7-inch (17.8 cm) color TFT cluster screen with up to 6 modes for displaying vehicle information, as well as options to monitor trip computer, fuel consumption, and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System to aid eco-driving.
