Citroen Basalt Mid-Spec Variant Spied Without Camouflage [Video]

The French automaker Citroën is gearing up for the launch of its unique Basalt Coupe SUV in India. The model is slated to be launched in the second half of this year. So, prior to its official launch, the company is testing the vehicle on Indian roads. Recently, a new, fully undisguised test mule of the Citroën Basalt was spotted testing on public roads. This particular mule appeared to be the mid-spec variant of this distinct coupe SUV.

The video showing the Citroën Basalt coupe SUV parked on the side of the road has come courtesy of 1Dgasm from Instagram. It starts with the cameraman slowly moving towards the SUV. Following this, the video then shows the complete side profile and rear end of the upcoming Basalt coupe SUV.

2024 Citroën Basalt Coupe: Exterior

From this recently spotted test mule’s video, we can observe that it will get a very similar front-end design as the C3 Aircross. The grille looks the same with the integrated Citroën logo and two horizontal chrome lines.

The front bumper and air dams also look the same as the C3 Aircross. As stated above, this particular test mule is the mid-spec variant of the Basalt coupe. This can be determined as the air dams do not get the chrome accents as the one unveiled globally.

The silver front skid plate is also missing. What can be found similar is the presence of LED DRLs and halogen headlights. Apart from these changes, the major ones were noted on the side profile. It can be observed that instead of getting alloy wheels, the mid-spec variant will come with steel wheels and covers.

The rear also boasts some changes. Of these, the most prominent one is the absence of a silver skid plate. This skid plate, seen on the globally unveiled model, gives the Basalt a much more premium appearance at the rear.

The claddings on this test mule were finished in matte black. Meanwhile, the ones shown with the globally unveiled model were finished in high-gloss black. The rest of the design appeared to be the same with the wraparound LED taillights. The Basalt, like the C3 Aircross and C3 hatchback, will get flap-style door handles.

Interior

The video does not show the interior of this mid-spec variant of the Basalt. However, we can note that the door pads were covered in camouflage. What we do know is that the top-spec variant of the Basalt coupe will come equipped with a similar layout as the C3 Aircross.

Most likely, the company could be offering it more premium features. The list of these features could include cruise control, keyless entry, and push-button start. Unfortunately, the exact list of features has not been revealed by the brand.

Powertrain

As for the powertrain options of the Citroën Basalt coupe, most likely it will come powered by the same 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. This is the same engine that powers the Citroën C3 Aircross.

This motor makes 110 PS and 205 Nm of peak torque. It could be offered with both a manual as well as torque converter automatic transmission. An electric version of the Basalt is slated to go on sale six months after the launch of the ICE Basalt at around February 2025.
