Channing Tatum Has Endorsed the Big Pants Agenda

Channing Tatum has been a busy, busy guy. After wrapping up a press run for films Fly Me to the Moon and Deadpool & Wolverine (spoilers!) last month, the actor’s already back on the road, this time to promote Blink Twice, his fiancée Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut—which is big news! And big news like this requires some even bigger trousers.

This week, The Lost City star pulled up to The Tonight Show in some of the biggest pants in Hollywood. The flowy, taupe-hued XXXL chinos hung loose around his legs, and the hems pooled around his ruched leather loafers.

And these trousers—they’re not just super wide. They’re also super long. Tatum isn’t a short dude by any means (the man measures up at an impressive 6’1″), but they’re still trailing about a mile or two behind him. And it’s also a sign that the wide trouser trend isn’t going anywhere. On the contrary: it’s bigger than ever.

Long peddled by Giorgio Armani, big trousers have been embraced by menswear veterans for eons. And, slowly but surely, they’ve permeated Hollywood as riskier dressers are paddling freely in the fashion mainstream. Justin Bieber’s been known to do it very well; Harry Styles, too. Admittedly, those two are some of the most experimental dressers in the game, and they’ve long been a little out-there with their fits. Over the last few years, Channing Tatum has joined them. Just take a look at the final-level-mob-boss Versace double-breasted suit that he wore last month at a Fly Me to the Moon event in Madrid and you’ll know what we’re talking about.

It’s an aesthetic that womenswear has long embraced, too, from TikTok’s “big pants, little shirt’ trend to influencers wearing baggy trousers and parachute pants. And many lads have been slower to entertain the idea of wearing super-oversized pants, thanks to guys like Tatum, they might just give it a go. The new and radical age of big trousers is upon us.
