Cars for G20 summit worth Rs 100s crores imported from around the world [Video]

Ahead of the upcoming G20 summit taking place at Pragati Maidan in Delhi on September 9-10, there has been a surge in demand for luxury cars to transport the delegates and officials. So far, several luxury cars and vans, worth crores, have been procured from rental companies in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Bengaluru. Due to a shortage of specific vehicles, some cab rental companies have even imported these vehicles from Nepal.

Among the vehicles acquired from luxury car rental companies for the G20 Summit, full-size luxury sedans are in the highest demand. Models like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach S600, BMW 7-Series, Genesis G80, and Audi A8 have been the most preferred choices for the event. Additionally, midsize cars like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-Series have been included in the fleet.

Most of these cars have been procured from car rental companies based in metropolitan and tier-1 cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, and Jaipur. Karachi Taxi Service (KTC), one of the oldest car rental services operating in Delhi, has alone supplied 30-35 cars for the event, with rental costs going up to Rs 1 lakh per day.

Cars imported from Nepal

Due to the high demand for luxury cars and vans, KTC has even imported several units of Toyota Coaster and Commuter vans. These vans are not officially available in the country but are preferred by delegates and officials from around the world. These Toyota vans have been imported from Nepal due to their unavailability in the required numbers.

Iqbal Singh, the owner of KTC, mentioned that he was originally expecting the newly added cars to arrive in his fleet by November. However, due to the government’s immediate need for the G20 Summit, he received the deliveries of these newly-acquired cars on a priority basis. These cars will be used to transport the delegates from 5-star luxury hotels to Pragati Maidan and other locations. To ensure a comprehensive experience, the drivers of these luxury cars will be properly trained to communicate in both Hindi and English.

For the delegates, over 30 luxury hotels have been booked in Delhi. The heads of all the member nations of G20, including Joe Biden (US President) and Rishi Sunak (UK Prime Minister).
