Burnley complete Joe Worrall signing from Nottingham Forest

Joe Worrall has completed his move from Nottingham Forest to Burnley for an undisclosed fee.

The defender has signed a four-year deal with the Championship side after travelling to undergo a medical on Wednesday.

Worrall had fallen out of favour at Forest and spent the second half of last season on loan at Turkish club Besiktas, featuring nine times.

“I’m very happy to be a Burnley player,” he said upon completing his move to Turf Moor. “I can’t wait to be involved and help get them back to the Premier League.

“It felt like home as soon as I walked through the door and that’s what I want it to be. I’m really looking forward to getting to know the people in and around the club but also the fans. I want to strike up a bit of a rapport with them.”

The 27-year-old is a product of the Forest academy and was made club captain by former manager Steve Cooper after the club’s promotion to the Premier League in the summer of 2022.

Worrall was a key part of that promotion-winning team and made 30 Premier League appearances the following season. He saw his game time limited last term though — a situation that was not helped by a disagreement with Cooper, who was then sacked and replaced with Nuno Espirito Santo.

“I think you know, already, how much I appreciate Joe,” Nuno said earlier on Thursday. “When I arrived, we made the decision that he would not be involved. But his behaviour as club captain has been amazing.”

Worrall leaves Forest having made 226 appearances for the club and joins a Burnley side that is fielding interest in centre-back Dara O’Shea. Scott Parker’s side have already moved to sign Bashir Humphreys on loan from Chelsea.
