Brighton’s Evan Ferguson and Pervis Estupinan to miss rest of season through injury

Brighton striker Evan Ferguson and left-back Pervis Estupinan have been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.

The pair will miss Wednesday’s home game against Manchester City and the final five matches of the campaign.

Ecuador left-back Estupinan went off with a calf injury in the early stages of the 1-1 draw at Burnley 11 days ago, while Republic of Ireland international Ferguson has been troubled by ankle pain.

Estupinan previously missed 15 matches from September to December with a muscle injury. Ferguson has suffered minor injury problems during the campaign after bursting onto the first team scene last season with ten goals in 25 appearances in all competitions.

The 19-year-old has not added to his six league goals in 27 appearances since November and has not featured since the end of March.

Losing Ferguson and Estupinan is a further blow to tenth-placed Brighton’s hopes of qualifying for Europe for the second season running via a high league finish under head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

The Italian had already lost Solly March (since October), Kaoru Mitoma and Jack Hinshelwood (both since February) to long-term injuries which ruled them out for the rest of the season.

De Zerbi, however, could have central defender Adam Webster and Paraguayan forward Julio Enciso available for City’s visit.
