Brighton & Hove Albion striker Mark O’Mahony has returned from a season-long loan with Championship side Portsmouth to recover from a side strain.
The 19-year-old suffered the injury coming on as a second-half substitute in last month’s 2-2 draw at Swansea. He will resume the loan with Portsmouth in January once he is fully fit again.
O’Mahony has scored two goals in five starts and four substitute appearances in the second tier since moving to Fratton Park in the closing days of the summer transfer window at the end of August.
The deal was finalised 24 hours after O’Mahony scored his first senior goal for Brighton in a 4-0 home win against Crawley in the Carabao Cup.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international made three first-team appearances last season under former head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
O’Mahony’s progress since signing from Cork City in January 2023 was rewarded in April with a new contract until June 2027.
Fabian Hurzeler’s Brighton are seventh in the Premier League table following Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Leicester City.
They return to action at home to rivals Crystal Palace this coming Sunday.
