Brighton & Hove Albion's Adam Webster sustains hamstring injury, doubt for Newcastle game

Adam Webster is an early doubt for Brighton & Hove Albion’s next match at Newcastle on October 19.

The central defender went off injured after nine minutes of Sunday’s 3-2 comeback win at home to Tottenham.

Webster, 29, felt the hamstring on his right leg after striking a pass in the early stages of the game. He was replaced by Brazilian Igor Julio after nine minutes.

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler said after the match: “We don’t know yet (the extent of the injury). We have to do a scan and then the situation will be clearer.”

Hurzeler kept faith with Webster after his mistake led to Cole Palmer equalising with the first of four goals for the England international in Brighton’s 4-2 defeat at Chelsea at the end of September.

Webster deactivated his X (formerly Twitter) account amid criticism over the error. He has deputised in the last two games for Jan Paul van Hecke.

The Netherlands international, ruled out of club and country duty by a groin injury, is aiming to be back for the Newcastle game.

Captain Lewis Dunk and Julio are currently Brighton’s only fit centre-backs.
