Barcelona have been banned from selling tickets to the club’s away fans for one game by UEFA following racist supporter behaviour during their Champions League fixture at Monaco earlier this month.
The La Liga side will therefore be without away supporters for their next Champions League away game, which is the league phase fixture at Red Star Belgrade on November 6.
Barcelona were handed a suspended one-match ban on selling tickets to away fans in UEFA competitions for a probationary period of one year after racist behaviour during the first leg of last season’s Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain. Following the supporter behaviour against Monaco, UEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary body has charged Barcelona with racism and/or discriminatory behaviour and this suspended measure has now been enforced.
The club have also been fined €10,000 (£8,300; $11,100) and handed an additional suspended one-match ban on selling tickets to away fans for UEFA competitions, which again is suspended for one year.
Following Barcelona’s first-leg quarter-final victory over PSG in April, three supporters were arrested for allegedly performing Nazi salutes and the use of racist language. Barcelona subsequently provisionally suspended them from buying tickets.
Barcelona were beaten 2-1 by Monaco at the Stade Louis II in their Champions League opener but have won all six of their La Liga matches to begin the 2024-25 campaign.
