Ayo Edebiri’s Golden Globes Suit Was Inspired by ’90s Julia Roberts—and ’03 Carmelo Anthony

Naturally, one of the most exciting menswear moments at last night’s Golden Globes was delivered by one of Hollywood’s most exciting menswear stars: The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri.

The actress hit the carpet wearing a boxy, monochromatic grey wool suit by Loewe, a custom riff on a look from the Spanish luxury label’s spring 2025 runway show. Edebiri’s suit came fitted with a matching collared shirt, draped trousers (marred only by an unfortunately conspicuous logo patch), pointed oxfords, and a snaking gold feather-shaped tie necklace. She accessorized with a set of gleaming grills fashioned by the jeweler Vanessa Leon of Mental Gardens.

Ahead of the Globes, Edebiri and her stylist Danielle Goldberg shared a few clues on their Instagram stories, including a photoset of Julia Roberts memorably wearing a men’s Armani suit at the 1990 Golden Globes, which she purchased herself from the label’s Rodeo Drive boutique. (“I could not have known that it was going to become this, like, statement outfit,” Roberts recently told Vogue.) The reference made even more sense given that Edebiri and Roberts both recently wrapped filming the upcoming Luca Guadagnino thriller After the Hunt, which will also feature Andrew Garfield and Chloë Sevigny.

But the actress also shared an image of a babyfaced Carmelo Anthony sporting his truly enormous six-button gray suit at the 2003 NBA Draft. The inspiration behind this look, it seems, contained multitudes.

“I felt really inspired by the costumes [Loewe designer Jonathan Anderson] designed for Luca Guadagnino’s film Queer, and loved the idea of playing around with menswear—especially with a suit that felt of that era,” the actress told Vogue of the look.

And among The Bear’s other sartorially-minded castmembers—such as Matty Matheson and Jeremy Allen White—Edebiri is in good company. “The men on my show throw some very serious fits down,” she said.
