Aston Villa agree to sign Marco Asensio on loan from PSG

Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Premier League club will cover the Spain international’s full salary as part of the package.

Villa manager Unai Emery is a long-term admirer of Asensio and has been interested in signing the 29-year-old attacker in previous windows.

Villa recruited Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund in January but have been in the market for more reinforcements after midfielder Emiliano Buendia joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan and Jhon Duran was sold to Al Nassr.

The Athletic reported earlier on Saturday that Villa are also close to agreeing a deal to sign Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United.

Former Real Madrid midfielder Asensio has scored two goals in 16 appearances in all competitions for PSG this season.

He joined from Madrid in the summer of 2023 and played 31 times in his first season in France.

Asensio’s debut for his new club could come at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup next Sunday or when Ipswich Town visit in the Premier League the following weekend.
