Arisa Trew, 14, wins gold in women's skateboarding as youngest medalist at Paris Games

Australian teenage phenom Arisa Trew made history at the Paris Olympics by winning gold in women’s park skateboarding on Tuesday.

Trew, 14, won after a nearly perfect third round, becoming the first Australian woman to medal in the event. Her win also made her the youngest medalist at the Paris Games.

Japan’s Cocona Hiraki held first place in the event before Trew dropped into the bowl for her final round. Trew opened her routine with back-to-back 540s, where the skater and their board turn one and a half rotations in the air, to earn a score of 93.18 and secure the gold medal.

Hiraki, 15, earned silver and Britain’s Sky Brown, 16, won bronze to repeat their 2-3 podium finish in the Tokyo Olympics.

Last summer, Trew became the first woman to land a 720, where a skater completes two full rotations midair, at Tony Hawk’s Vert Alert in Salt Lake City. In May, Trew’s dominance continued when she was the first woman to land a 900 (two and a half rotations) during training.

At age 13, Trew became the youngest X Games double gold medalist of all time by winning women’s skateboard vert gold and women’s skateboard park gold at the X Games California 2023.
