The Los Angeles Angels are hiring Ron Washington as their next manager, a source briefed on the hiring but not authorized to speak publicly confirmed Wednesday.
League sources confirmed Tuesday that the Angels interviewed Washington and former New York Mets manager Buck Showalter for the vacancy.
The Athletic reported in October that former manager Phil Nevin wouldn’t return to the team for the 2024 season. The Angels went 73-89 in 2023 and were eliminated from the playoffs on Sept. 19. They failed to make the playoffs during Nevin’s tenure as manager.
Los Angeles hasn’t made postseason play since 2014.
This is a developing story. More to come.
