A 753-Square-Foot Apartment in Barcelona Incorporates Californian Cool

“These clients live in San Francisco but they have a very strong bond with Barcelona. They wanted a place that embodied both aspects of their lives—a space that reflected their California side but here in Barcelona,” says Aldric Iborra, head of communications at MA&Partners. Perched high above the city, between the mountains and the sea, the Barcelona apartment is an ideal pied-à-terre. Responsible for the architecture, construction, and design, MA&Partners also called on the expertise and vision of interior design studio Santa Living to create a small, bespoke home with its own unique character.

On the apartment’s south terrace, a Pitufi lounge chair by Heaps & Woods, an Allegra coffee table (Heaps & Woods), a Cesta lamp by Santa & Cole, Deriva ceramics by Canoa Lab and cushions from Kover Studio and Santa Living.

The renovation was completed in record time. “It took us less than six months to finish and deliver the project,” Iborra recalls. “The apartment became a kind of utopian place, a unique retreat.” Cleverly designed to suit the clients’ tastes and offer a new interpretation of Spanish elegance, the home offers a new take on typical hotel design features. “We wanted to create a space with all the amenities of a luxury hotel, while making sure the clients felt at home.”
