F1 Saudi Arabian GP live updates: Max Verstappen claims pole as Lando Norris crashes out of qualifying

That was exceptional again from Max Verstappen, who sets a track record with his qualifying lap.

Maybe there wasn’t the amazement that came with his pole in Suzuka, but perhaps that’s because we all know what the Red Bull driver is capable of. Here are Verstappen’s thoughts:

💬 “I mean, very happy. I definitely didn’t expect to be on pole here after FP3 as well, and looking at how the whole weekend was. But the car came alive in the night.

“We made some final changes and it was a lot more enjoyable to drive. The grip was coming to me and around here, a qualifying lap is extremely difficult because of all the walls.

“It’s really satisfying to be first here in qualifying. The best position for tomorrow — even though I think in the race it will be tough to keep them behind, but we’re going to give it a good go.”
