An assistant referee who officiated in the EFL has been charged with 16 child sex offences.
Gareth Viccars, 46, has been charged with 12 counts of sexual activity with a child, two counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child, one count of meeting a child following sexual grooming and one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed to The Athletic.
Viccars had been charged last month with a single count of penetrative sexual activity with a girl, aged 13-15. That remains one of the 16 charges against him.
He is currently being held in custody.
He has now been charged with 15 further offences, as first reported by the Daily Telegraph.
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the body responsible for referees in England, suspended Viccars from his role amid the police investigation.
He has not been involved in a match since the 2023-24 season.
A trial has been scheduled for September 22 at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
